Our Stories
I'm the director of, "XJW | Coming Out," a documentary series. This is not my story, this is OUR story. These are stories of life on the inside, personal exit experiences and the transformation that happens after leaving Jehovah’s Witnesses.
The teaser is just a sample, a proof of concept. We have hours of footage of each person who has participated so far. We will share more of their stories mixed with the next group of XJW's we interview. The topic based episodes will show visually how each person truly lives while they reflect on their past and delve deep into their story. We travel with them on regional trips to take the viewer on a small travel adventure while hearing their personal story.
We XJW's exist everywhere on Earth in countless cultures but we are dispersed, decentralized and primarily only connected online. The creators of this documentary series are joining this global XJW community with this project. We want to share the creation of it as well as the final films with the millions like us who have forged our own paths in life. We hope that it will humanize XJW's everywhere showing how free, strong and healthy our lives are once we break free of control.
Our Communication
Our families and friends on the inside are incredibly curious about our present lives. They are violating their own nature in following the culture of JW's and choosing not to communicate. They want to have a natural connection but they deny themselves out of selfish fear of being murdered by their "Loving creator" forever as well as the selfish reward of living forever. It's on us to contact our families regardless of what stance they are taking. We have to open the communication lines. Deep down they actually want us to.
Our Voice
Last time I surprised my family by visiting them was during my little sisters wedding (I wasn’t invited and not one member of my JW family informed me). My non-JW aunt called and asked me to make sure to be there. I traveled 20 hours to attend for 5 days. I learned that week from my JW family that all phone calls and emails I had sent over the years were read and shared by all of my immediate JW family. Even though they don’t respond doesn’t mean we don’t have a voice.
With the creation of this doc series we believe that it will be watched by those on the inside and may have a big impact on some of them. However that is merely a side point. The focus is telling honest, deep, authentic stories that hit hard and inspire us, the XJW community everywhere.
Create with us
Everyone creating this are XJW's, even the music was created by XJW artists. We're trying to build not just a community around this film project but to give a voice to XJW's around the world in whatever language, culture, race, age group, gender or world view they may identify with now. The diversity of thought, strength of mind, unique characters and hilarious folks we've met so far have inspired us to keep creating and giving to this idea.
We’d love to know what you think of the teaser and if you think we could collaborate in some way to make this project better. You can contribute to this blog by writing your story, send us a sample of music to consider including, help spread the word or tell us what you'd like to see or hear.
